The short version
Tenths has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We don’t run servers that receive your data, and we can’t see where you drive.
What the app stores
The drives you take (times, routes, distances and places), the business expenses, places and vehicles you add, and your settings. All of it is stored on the device you use Tenths on. If you turn on iCloud sync, it is also stored in your private iCloud, which only your Apple Account can access; that’s how your iPhone, iPad and Mac show the same log.
Earnings and tips you type in from your rideshare or delivery platforms’ tax summaries, and car loan interest, stay on your device and in backups you choose to export, and Tenths doesn’t connect to those platforms. From version 1.1, if you turn on iCloud sync, they and your other settings are also kept in your private iCloud, so your devices match.
If you match your drives to a trip history you downloaded from Uber, Lyft or another platform, Tenths reads the file on your device and doesn’t keep it or send it anywhere. Each drive that lines up with your trips notes the platform, how many trips and when they were, as part of the drive.
Receipts and photos
When you scan a receipt or photograph your odometer, Tenths reads the photo on your device. The photo stays on the device that took it and in backups you choose to export; it isn’t sent anywhere else.
Location and motion
Tenths uses your location, including in the background, only to detect and record drives. Motion & Fitness data is used only to tell when you’re in a car, including to find drives from the last week that Tenths may have missed. To show where those drives went, the places iOS notices you stop are kept for a week on your iPhone, never in iCloud or backups, and are erased if you turn Find missed drives off. This information doesn’t leave your device except in files you choose to export or in your private iCloud. From version 1.1, Tenths on an iPad or a Mac never uses your location; it shows the log your iPhone keeps.
Calendar and photo library
If you turn on purposes from your calendar, Tenths reads your events on your device to suggest a drive’s purpose. If you rebuild past drives from your calendar and photos, it reads the events that have a place, and when and where each photo was taken, on your device; it never opens, copies or uploads the photos themselves. To find an event’s place, the location typed in the event is looked up with Apple Maps. Drives you add this way keep the event names in their notes.
Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple. We don’t receive your payment details.
Maps and addresses
To show maps, turn coordinates into street names and tell what kind of place a drive ended at (a store, a gym, a park), Tenths uses Apple Maps services, which Apple provides under its own privacy policy. What it learns is kept on your device.
Your choices
You can export or delete everything at any time in Settings › Your data. Deleting the app deletes its data from that device.
Children
Tenths is a business tool and isn’t directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
